Theology

The peculiarity of theological speculation lies in its typically meta-rational core. Meta-rational, and not irrational, because the believer does not think that theological reflections are below reason. He rather thinks that the explanation of phenomena by mere reason is incomplete, if not false. Theological discourses come from insiders and are meant for insiders, unless they have proselytistic aims. This is why the non-believer may think of theology as mere fiction, and why much theological literature in Sanskrit defines at the very incipit of works the eligibility of the reader.
